Our loved one passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home in 2012. She was a passionate supporter of organ donation and always ensured she had signed her donor card when it came with her license renewal. She had completed the new online registration process only two days before her death and encouraged us to do as well, so her wishes were fresh in our minds. Our family has always talked about organ donation and were supportive of her decision. However, it was still not easy to give permission. Losing a loved one suddenly and unexpectedly is totally devastating and incapacitating, yet we knew we had to respect her wishes. When we subsequently received a letter from the Ontario Eye Bank describing how her corneas were successfully implanted restoring sight to two people, including a 12 year old boy, we knew we had made the right decision. We are so proud of her compassion and desire to help others, and have been spreading the message ever since. In a special ceremony, our loved one's name was added to the tree of life in our local hospital. We know her gift has inspired others. Little did we know that seven years later, our loved one's father would become an organ recipient. It was a poignant reminder that any of us could need a gift of life and we were so grateful to the donor's family. It gives us an added incentive to promote donor registration.

I originally set a goal of 25 but support has been so inspiring, I've increased my goal several times. The response has been amazing!
