My name is mark and i am 23 years old and as of May 1 2010 i had a heart and double lung transplant. I was born with with a congenital heart defect called transposition of the great arteries (TGA) in which the connections of the two main arteries are reversed, placing stress on both sides of the organ. As is often the case with TGA infants who survive, I was born with a ventricular septal defect — a hole in my heart. In September, 2009, I was put on the transplant list for a new heart. Then me and my family received unexpected — and frightening — news. My defective heart had caused irreparable damage to his lungs. Even a healthy new heart wouldn’t be able to pump blood through the damaged organs. I would require a double lung transplant. Now 2 years later i have joined the local gym which i enjoy very much which i would never been able to do with my condition before. i am in college and enjoy life and all the advetures it has to offer me thanks to my donor.
