Katherine Baines: Gift Of 8 Campaign
Organ donation is incredibly important to me because it gave me a second chance at life, allowing me to cherish more time with my loved ones. In 2023 I was told I had less than a 50% chance of living over the next 2 years, I was in heart failure due to a genetic heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This was extremely difficult news to take in and process. I needed to be here for my family, especially my children. Luckily due to the selflessness of a stranger and their family I received the call earlier this year (2024) that a heart was ready for me. I am beyond grateful to my donor and their family for the incredible gift they’ve given me. Their decision to donate not only saved my life but also gave my loved ones the chance to hold on to me for longer, and for that, I am eternally thankful. I can never truly express how much this gift means to me, but I promise to honor it by living every day with gratitude and making the most of the second chance I’ve been given. To my donor’s family, I will forever be indebted to your kindness and courage, and my hero heart.
