When I was sixteen the first thing I did when I got my driver's license was sign m donor card. it was the first important thing I did as a young adult. I always knew I wanted to be an organ donor. However, 16 years ago, I had no idea how important organ donation would play in my life. Never in a million years did I ever imagine that at 30 years old, I, would be waiting for a much needed liver transplant in order to live. A little over a year and a half ago i found myself in the ICU unit fighting for my life. My family was told I didn't have much time left. However, I fought and managed to pull through only to find out that I was in End Stage Liver Failure. Now, I wait. Wait for a liver transplant.
There are many more people just like me. Waiting for a second chance at life.
There are so many people in Ontario who's lives have been put on hold, just like mine. All waiting for the gift of an organ donation to save their lives. By registering your consent, you are giving the ultimate gift to someone in need. Gone are the days of having to carry around a signed donor card. All you need is your health card, 2 minutes of your time and love in your heart. when I signed my donor card at sixteen I did it because I knew then it was the right thing to do. Not knowing one day I would need a transplant. I don't tell my story, or plead my case for myself. But for everyone waiting, and for their families who stand by them when they are too sick to care for themselves. You never know, one day down the road. Maybe you'll look back on this moment and realize that this was a life changing moment in your life and you just don't know it yet. Gift the gift of life, give someone a second chance.
