💚 ONE DONOR. ONE LIFE. SO MANY MEMORIES. Organ and tissue donation is deeply personal to me because I know firsthand what it means to receive the gift of life. In 2003, both of my kidneys failed. My son was only 5 years old. It was during the SARS outbreak in Toronto, Canada, and because of hospital restrictions, my little boy could not visit me for three months. Imagine being a mother in the hospital, desperately wanting to hug your child but being unable to see him. We could only see each other through the hospital windows and talk on the phone, separated by glass. Those three months were incredibly painful and emotional. I didn't know what the future would hold. For five long years, I waited. Then, in 2008, something extraordinary happened. Someone I may never know made the selfless decision to become an organ donor. Because of that decision, I received a life-saving kidney transplant in Toronto. That person gave me something I can never repay — more time. More time to be a mother. More time to watch my son grow. More time to make memories. Because of my transplant, I was able to travel with my family to incredible places, including Disney World, Jamaica, Jerusalem and Egypt. I was there for school trips. I watched my son play soccer and swim. I supported him in sports and activities. I celebrated his milestones. Most importantly, I was there for the everyday moments that can mean the most. Those moments were possible because someone chose to donate. Organ donation is about more than saving a life. It gives families more birthdays, more holidays, more hugs, more adventures and more memories. It gives someone the opportunity to experience a future they may never have had. 💚 Please consider registering as an organ and tissue donor and talk to your family about your decision.
