Ginette Lebel: Gift of 8 Campaign
I didn't really know what it was like to be "healthy" like other people. My version of healthy had always been living with kidney disease. My life has consisted of doctors, nurses, and hospitals since I was very young. My family has lived through this with me & have always been there for me. To the point where when push came to shove a loved one made such a selfless decision and she decided to donate one of their kidneys to me ~ a gift no person can ever imagine foreseeing giving or receiving ... ever!!! Unfortunately due to medication issues my kidney rejected 3 years after receiving it. We were all devastated, but nobody more so than the loved one who had donated their kidney who felt it was their fault. As a result I made the decision to start Peritoneal Dialysis for as long as I could - this I thought was the scariest time of my life.
I'm here because he was a donor
Deciding to do Peritoneal Dialysis was a hard decision & I thought everything up to & including that was the scariest time of my life. Was I ever wrong. The scariest time of my life was when I made the decision to have another kidney transplant & decided I was going to go on the transplant list & then a year and a half later getting THAT call. I now have a special "angel" & a special family out there somewhere. My angel decided to be an organ donor & I thank him every day. I feel the best that I have EVER felt in my life. One organ, tissue, & corneal donor may directly save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people. Organs can save lives, corneas renew vision, & tissue may help to restore someone's ability to walk, run or move freely without pain ~ please, please, please choose to be an organ donor ~ your life will continue on in the recipients of your gift.
