Every three days someone dies in Ontario because the life-saving organ transplant they need is not available, yet only 25% of Ontarians have registered their consent to be a donor. It's really surprising, and it's not good enough. Especially for the 1,500 people in our province waiting for organ transplants and the thousands more waiting for tissue transplants. The Durham Tamil Association has taken ownership of this cause to raise awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation to the South Asian communities living in the Durham region. The Durham Tamil Association is helping to organize the first ever South Asian focused Public Forum in the Town of Ajax in partnership with the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians and the Town of Ajax. The Public Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 7th from 6pm to 8pm at the McLean Community Centre Banquet Hall. All members of the South Asian communities in Durham are invited to come to the event and learn about why it is important to register your consent to donate. The Durham Tamil Association's vision is to enhance Tamil language and cultural values while empowering youth to develop into future leaders with social and cultural conscience and to improve the quality of our seniors lifestyles. The DTA also works with all other communities to embrace multiculturalism in Canada.
