My name is Adele, I'm 27 years old and I grew up in North Bay, Ontario. I have a genetic condition called cystic fibrosis (CF). CF causes my body to build up thick mucus in all of my organs, particularly the lungs. As I get older, my lungs get more and more clogged and it gets harder and harder to breathe. At the moment, I have about 40% of the lung function of a healthy person my size. Almost every person with Cystic Fibrosis will, at some point in their lives, require a lung transplant. While I'm still quite a ways off from being listed, I know that my future will include a transplant. I have many friends with CF who either are listed for transplant or have already received one.
